The site at milesmaxwell.com has gone through many incarnations since launching in 2001 and I’m excited for us to start a new chapter. As of July 2019, we have a new look!
I’ll be honest, it wasn’t exactly borne out of a burning desire to find new and better ways to tell our story using the web. The template we used for our site (Rocket Themes Remnant theme) was no longer actively maintained, which became a security risk. So, I went about looking for a new template.
Maintaining the website security and data privacy necessary to conduct business online can be time consuming and expensive so I considered moving away from WordPress. A managed web content platform where security was somebody else’s problem sounded pretty good.
I thought for a second about (gasp!) a Squarespace/Wix site but their youtube ads are so annoying that I can’t possibly consider supporting them. I considered moving the domain to a bandzoogle site. A quick demo of bandzoogle revealed some feature limitations that I didn’t want to live with.
I thought about going back to Joomla since I have lots of experience with that platform. I switched to WordPress about six years ago because I like the theme marketplace much better and I found that was still the case. I’m not building web applications that benefit from the additional feature set that Joomla provides so I’m staying right where I started with WordPress.
