Emersonian Love Song (Transparent Eyeball)

What do you do when you know you want to record and release music but you haven’t made time to write new material? If you’re me, you go back to the beginning and ask yourself, “do I want any do-overs?” After all, when you own the recording studio and all the rights to 50+ original songs, who’s there to stop you?

With that mindset, I started the adventure of picking up all the poorly recorded demos or scratchy live performance recordings and set out to re-record them with all the skills of someone with 20 years experience.

The first song I did and am sharing with the world is this old ditty, “Emersonian Love Song (Transparent Eyeball)” from 1999. I wrote this my senior year at Williams about transcendence in the face of adversity. I did a songwriter stories video and an acoustic performance of it back in 2017.

2017 acoustic performance and story behind the song

Flash forward to late 2022 and I load up a new project in Reaper (my DAW of choice) to record a proper permanent studio version. I cooked up an album artwork using Photoshop’s Generative Fill and voila! New single, releasing August 18th, 2023.
